Biden confirms Russia used hypersonic missile ‘to get through’ Ukraine defense

PRESIDENT Joe Biden has confirmed Russia launched a hypersonic missile at Ukraine.

Biden said on Monday that this was done in part due to the strength of Ukrainian defenses as he warned of major cyberattacks on the US.

“They’ve just launched their hypersonic missile, because it’s the only thing that they can get through with absolute certainty,” Biden said at Business Roundtable’s CEO Quarterly Meeting.

“As you all know, it’s a consequential weapon with the same warhead on it as as any other launched missile.

“It doesn’t make that much difference, except it’s almost impossible to stop it. There’s a reason they’re using it.”

The ballistics are said to travel up to 12 times the speed of sound and have a range of almost 2,000 miles.

“They’re wreaking havoc on the Russian military, whether it’s their tanks or their helicopters or their aircraft,” Biden said of Ukrainian forces.

Biden said Putin’s back is “against the wall” as he wasn’t anticipating the extent or strength of unity he’s seen in response to attacks.

“And the more his back is against the wall, the greater the severity of the tactics he may employ,” Biden said.

His remarks come as a recent enormous explosion annihilated the Retroville mall in the northwest of the Ukrainian capital.

The blast was so powerful it pulverized vehicles in the car park.

The video was reportedly released by the Russian military itself to show Ukrainian forces were using the mall to station their own missiles thus justifying the brutal attack.

Police said at least eight people were killed.

Strikes were reportedly carried out using long-range precision weapons in the evening of March 19 and early March 20.

The missiles were launched from ships in the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea at Ukrainian military infrastructure, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.

On Monday, Biden also accused Putin of setting up “false flag” operations by asserting that the US had “biological as well as chemical weapons in Europe,” the Daily Mail reported.

Further missiles, including the hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, were also launched from Crimea to destroy a fuel storage facility used by Ukraine.

“Kinzhal,” Russian for dagger, is an apt name for these missiles, which can decimate warships and carriers.

LiveScience reported that the missiles reach up to 3,000 miles per hour which makes them nearly impossible to detect and neutralize from a defensive position.

The Kinzhal missile can be loaded with up to 1,000 pounds of explosives, or even a nuclear warhead.

The United States doesn’t currently have hypersonic missiles at its disposal.
