There are few things more predictable than taxes, a bad winter in Maine, and Alabama topping the college football poll once again. However, Alabama does get some surprising criticism from many quarters, particularly after a surprising 2021 loss. Are they overrated, as many are saying? And if so, can you bank on it with a few surprising successes in the betting field?
Alabama Gets a Surprising Ranking
Alabama is used to being in at least the top three in the college football rankings every year throughout every season. However, a recent poll found them earn a different no.3 ranking: the third most overrated team in the nation. In this poll, 12 states voted Alabama as overrated, while Utah got 14 states’ votes and Notre Dame 13 votes. The next closest schools were Oregon and Texas, with four votes each.
Why would so many states rank Alabama as overrated when they have so many national championships? There are a few explanations here. Some states may simply be jealous of the team’s success and vote against them. However, that can’t explain such a persistent vote for the team. What may help is the most shocking loss in 2021, one that showed the Crimson Tide was not perfect.
The Surprising 2021 A&M Loss Could Be a Warning Sign
In 2021, after a shortened and frustrating COVID 2020 season, Alabama looked as good as always and seemed on its way to continual dominance. However, they lost on a last-minute field goal against Texas A&M, a team that they were supposed to beat by multiple touchdowns. Their ranking took a nose dive and while the team did rebound that season, it has definitely impacted many people’s perception of the team.
Furthermore, it is also clear that many players who graduate from Alabama don’t necessarily go on to huge success in the NFL. While the college is responsible for many, many recruits in the NFL, few have become dominant players. Some argue that the college’s success is primarily based on a strong system and on playing weaker opponents during the early games and then
Is Alabama Overrated? If So, Can You Bank?
It is possible that Alabama is overrated: no team can have that kind of consistent success without having a few down seasons or even a bad game or two. But does that mean they’re going to fall into a bunch of upsets? Probably not. Alabama has such a strong system and a great recruiting class this year. Saban is a legendary coach, and the team is likely to overcome just about every opponent with ease.
While we still think Alabama is gonna “roll tide” to a potential championship season, we urge you to bet the spread on some games. For example, their game against Arkansas in week five is a good chance to snag up a good spread and make good money on your bet. The championship games (assuming that they get there, of course) are also a good place to put down some bets that could earn you some cash payouts.
Keep Track Of the Season
No matter what you might think of Nick Saban and his success at Alabama, it is unlikely that they won’t push ahead with multiple wins this season and very few losses. While no team is perfect, the Crimson Tide is as efficient as a team as expected. However, you can use college football predictions to pick reasonable spreads that may give you a better chance of winning your bet.
